His Roots

Paul grew up in Saint Joseph, Michigan, in the southwest corner of the state, the oldest of three boys. He spent his time deeply engaging with the community through volunteering with the Krasl Art Center, enjoying nature centers, playing piano at local nursing homes, and singing with All God's Children Choir. Since then, Paul has continued to find ways to share his time and talents with his community, and running for county commissioner is the next step in this journey.

This early engagement within the community sparked a lifetime interest and passion for how people and policies interact, and what strong communities look like. Because of these experiences, Paul knows the importance of perseverance and listening to all voices, which is why he will focus on doing all he can to advocate for and be attuned to the needs of the community.

His Career

Paul's passion for technology and problem solving led him to complete bachelor's and master's degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He also pursued his love of music by completing a second bachelor's degree in musical arts, focusing on pipe organ performance.

Since graduating, Paul has made his career in the energy industry, initially as an engineering consultant for utility, nuclear, and government customers. His current position is as a power systems engineer working on grid energy storage systems. He continues to thrive when faced with nuanced problems that require collaborative solutions, whether technical or policy in nature.

His Family

Paul, his wife (Ali), and two dogs (Daisy and Dax), moved to Howell a few years ago after their time in Washington, DC left them craving nature and the connection of a small community that they loved in Michigan. Since moving to Howell, they have immediately fallen in love with the community: the homey downtown small businesses, the summertime (and winter) farmer's markets, the variety of annual festivals, and even weekly swing dancing at the Howell Opera House and all of the people they have met by being involved. There's nothing like the warm welcome we feel when interacting with our neighbors!

His Reason for Running

Paul is running to bring a focus on problem-solving and community engagement to the county commission. He believes that local government should be focused on the everyday issues that affect Livingston County families, not partisan issues. With his enthusiasm for serving others and love for collaboratively solving difficult problems, Paul would be excited and honored to serve the community as county commissioner. He believes his varied background in engineering, music, and volunteering will not only set him up well to be a county commissioner, but also enable him to better connect with the community as a whole.
